This Berlin art gallery, Sammlung Hoffman, is one of the many hidden surprises to be found behind Berlin’s many courtyards. Gunda Förster’s neon-light installation bathes this particular courtyard in lurid yellows, blues and reds. Once a sewing machine factory and manufacturer of medical equipment, the complex is now home to the Sammlung Hoffman – a private collection of contemporary art. Owner Erika Hoffmann and her late husband have been collecting art for 40 years. She opens her house to the public by appointment on Saturdays (felt slippers are provided). Actual displays are changed by the collector every year in July.
