Olympiastadion is the home of Berlin’s local football team – who were recently placed 10th in the German Bundesliga table. Built for the 1936 Olympics, it’s one of the few examples of Nazi architecture still intact. The recent refurbishment, famous for its fantastic roof construction and unique sound and light system, took four years to complete. A huge crowd of 73,000 attended the 2001 German Cup final in the Olympic stadium, which still resembled a building site at the time. Kick-off is usually 3.30pm on Saturday. American football and athletics meets also take place here, along with the odd rock concert. The Olympiastadion can be visited and explored individually or via a tour.
