En Obra is one of the bars in Bogotá which can boast being home to the city’s artists, eccentrics and intellectuals. The decoration is fairly minimal, with plywood tables, brown seats and thin planks of wood nailed to the back wall as the most elaborate decoration. But En Obra doesn’t need intricate furnishings to create atmosphere or lure a self-consciously cool crowd; comics, DJs, bands and film screenings have them flocking in their droves. The fusion food is also a strong point, with a delicious seafood soup and fresh squid. There are plenty of cocktails and beers to choose between, though it’s popular to drink straight liquors. At the very heart of it, En Obra’s appeal lies in its character. The shows and food are a much-appreciated extra touch, but the low-key vibe of this bar ensures that it is something of an institution amongst Bogotá’s alternative crowd.
