Gordo
Opened by two friends – chef Daniel Castaño and businessman Camilo Giraldo – to bring their New York bar experiences to Bogotá, Gordo offers comfort food classics, good music and excellent drinks in stylish surrounds. An homage to Brooklyn bars in particular, the floors here are wooden, the ceiling aluminium, and the crowd? Happy. And who could blame them, considering the abundant selection of liquor on show behind the strip-lit wooden-panelled bar?
Cocktails here are, unsurprisingly, a big draw, but there’s decent menu of wines available to drink by the glass and by the bottle. And for those who arrive with an appetite, Gordo won’t disappoint. There are hearty salads and sides (everything from French fries to sauteed spinach), bar snacks like fried pickles and pork belly tater tots, and mains like sandwiches, burgers, wings and, of course, mac and cheese. For those with a sweet tooth, meanwhile, the dessert menu is packed with waistline-busting options, including American classics like smores, pecan pie and even fried oreos, should your tastebuds be so bold.
