There is no quaint design or special aesthetic at Illy; customers sit at metal chairs and tables inside and outside on the patio, and there is a large bar and a flat screen for important football matches, which is always an important consideration when thinking of places to eat in Bogotá. Illy is concerned with the soul of Bogotá, not appearances, and so students, businessmen, politicians and fashionistas flock to the café in equal measures. The buzz of Illy is a snapshot of city life, and patrons sit for hours as they have their shoes shined and talk over everything and anything. The menu here is simple but exceptionally good: the paninis are absolutely delicious and put coffee-chain paninis to shame, while the smoothies go down a treat. The coffee is wonderful, of course, but Illy also has a well-stocked bar and many prefer sit over whiskey or amaretto. In short, a dynamic place to while away the hours.
