La Cigale is one of the restaurants in Bogota which treads the perfect line between sleek modernism and warm comfort. The red-and-black interior is dimly-lit and perfect for a romantic date, with plenty of private corners and nooks. But the space is large enough that it can easily cater to large business parties or family gatherings, and so while bankers dine on carpaccio during the week, La Cigale tends to fill with families and couples at the weekend. The French menu has a grounding of classic dishes (the steak tartare is excellent, and the chocolate mousse something of a legend), but is slowly becoming more adventurous. The wine list is truly extensive with over 300 different varieties, many of which are stacked along the wall, and if you simply can’t decide what to eat there are half-portions available to share between the table.
