Restaurante Casa Santa Clara

From its perch on Monserrate, Restaurante Casa Santa Clara has sweeping views out over the verdant mountainside and the city of Bogotá beyond. It’s out of the way, to be sure, with access gained via the mountain’s funicular, but a meal here is certainly worth the extra effort.

Restaurante Casa Santa Clara offers a delicious taste of Colombian cuisine, with all manner of dishes on the extensive menu, from pollo en salsa de maracuyá (chicken in passion fruit sauce, served with coconut rice and a tropical salad) to Arroz Monserrate (a signature rice dishes starring beef, chicken and pork, for extra meaty oomph). There’s also a tantalizing dessert menu; the Torta Santa Clara is a particular hit and comes with a generous scoop of Baileys ice cream.

But before the meal gets going in earnest, grab your glass – there’s a delicious selection of local and international wines on offer, as well as refreshing non-alcoholic options – make a toast, and enjoy the moment. Those in-the-know coincide their visits for sunset, when the views of Bogotá are unrivalled. But whenever you visit, the elegant, airy dining room, with its rich wooden furniture and crisp white linens, more than lives up to its local reputation as a destination restaurant.
