People have been sipping ale at El Dorrego’s bar for over a century. Carve your lover’s name on the bar while he orders the beers, soak up the tango culture in front of San Telmo’s most famous market-place and don’t complain if your Quilmes (beer) is not topped up to the line.
This is old-school San Telmo, where men used to wrap their legs around one another as the tango dances were developed.
Bar Dorrego is as touristy as an airport lounge, but still manages to pull off the authenticity the wood panelling and pastel yellow walls exude. Pop along to the Sunday market in the plaza and reflect on how you were talked into buying your boyfriend that bead necklace he always wanted, then contemplate dinner at La Brigada or Pentanque.
