Cementerio Recoleta
As ghost towns go, this is the world’s number one. Presidents and a host of other important figures are buried here. Buried, however, is not the right word. This is a maze of private chapels in which the bodies are placed.

rnTourists now stroll up and down this luxurious cemetery, lined with marble mausoleums decorated with statues. Argentines love to be linear and the cemetery is laid out in grids, just like Buenos Aires. Eva Peron, former presidents Carlos Pellegrini and Bartolomé Mitre, and Luis Firpo, a heavyweight boxer known as ‘the wild bull of the Pampas’, are just some of the big names resting here.
