Hg2 : The Hedonist

A Hedonist’s guide to…

Cape Town

Woodstock
As one of Cape Town's oldest suburbs, Woodstock will please even the most discerning shopper with its great variety of shops.
Wine Valley Trails
Wine Valley Horse Trails does exactly what it says on the tin; offers rides through the wine valley. Don't drink and ride!
Willoughby & Co.
By far the best sushi spot in town. Trust us; we've tried 'em all.
Waiting Room
Despite what it suggests in its name, there's not much waiting or sitting at The Waiting Room; in fact you'll be on your feet all night with a dance floor, a roster of regular DJ sessions and a bohemian 'throw-your-hands-in-the-air-like-you-just-don'
Virgin Active Point
Sweat it out alongside Cape Town's most taut and toned at Virgin Active Point.
Vida e Caffe
Forget Starbucks: Cape Town shows us how chain coffee shops are down with outlets of Vida e Caffe that each have their own personality.
Vergelegen
A little off the beaten track, but definitely worth it for the chance to sample some of the region's best wine; the stunning surroundings and Cape Dutch architecture add to its splendour.
Venture Forth
Do as this company says and Venture Forth to experience a range of adrenaline-pumping outdoor activities, including climbing, abseiling and canyoneering.
Tokara
Facing the stunning vineyards, this all-day deli knows what constitutes lipsmackingly-good savoury treats.
Tintswalo Atlantic
Those who like to live life on the edge can do so quite literally at Tintswalo Atlantic, which is perched on the edge of the ocean in the most beautiful bay
Theatre on the Bay
Theatre on the Bay is a delightfully intimate theatre that puts on a variety of West End-style musicals and smaller-scale dramas, comedies and revues.
The Long Beach
Fall out of bed and onto the beach at our favourite hippie hangout.
The Hidden Cellar
The Hidden Cellar is a melting pot of young talent and is where music conversation and the beer that fuels both comes together in style.
The Foodbarn
Stunning yet affordable food from a world-renowned chef, The Fodbarn is a must-eat.
The Bungalow
Striking views of Cape Town’s coast with indulgent Mediterranean cuisine and speciality cocktails.
Terroir
While its location may not scream luxury, the food at Terroir is anything but terrifying. In fact, it's well worth coming out of your comfort zone for.
Teazers
Teazers is a strip club without pretence; semi-clad girls swinging around well-oiled poles. End of.
Table Thirteen
Proving once and for all that size doesn't matter, Table Thirteen - lucky in this case - boasts a scaled-down menu that is big on quality.
Superette
Students love Superette for its casual ambiance, its arty clientele and its delicious deli counter.
Solms-Delta
Solms-Delta offers an intimate tasting experience followed up by a picnic on the grounds. Wash everything down with wine, naturally.
Sloppy Sam
A casual eatery with cuisine that draws on inspiration from a number of influences; the charismatic host adds to its panache.
Sleepy Hollow
Enjoy a spot of horseriding at the foot of Chapman's Peak with Sleepy Hollow. Headless horseman not included.
Sidewalk Cafe
Tucked away from the tourist trail, Sidewalk Café is a hidden gem.
Sea Point Pavilion
Sea Point Pavilion is an Olympic-sized seawater swimming pool that's extremely popular with families. Chlorine is overrated anyway.
Savoy Cabbage
What's in a name? Apparently not a lot, if Savoy Cabbage is anything to go by. Far from serving up dull veg, this arty-farty space serves up hearty comfort food that would satisfy even the biggest belly.
Rupert Museum
There's not much to say about the building itself, but focus is very much on the artwork at the Rupert Museum. Perhaps that is the way it should be.
Royale Eatery
Let's face it; despite our insatiable appetites for the finer things in life sometimes all we want to get our chops around is a good burger. And when such cravings beckon, Royale Eatery provides.
Royal Cape
The South Africa Open is often played out here, so you know you'll be in good company in the clubhouse after a round or two on the green.
Rouge on Rose
Central location + gorgeous design = top-notch prices, right? Wrong! Rouge on Rose offers everything at prices that won't punish the plastic...
Roeland Street
Offering small boutiques and independent stores, Roeland Street is perfect for shopping and then stopping for a coffee or snack at one of the many cafés.
Rocking the Daisies
As suggested by its name Rocking the Daisies is the kind of three-day festival that attracts both hip and hippy music lovers.
River Manor Stellenbosch
River Manor Stellenbosch is a beautiful, old-worldy boutique hotel in Cape Town's wine lands which is a perfect base for exploring the wineries
River Cafe
River Café may not be a big name in Cape Town, but that's all set to change with a newly-appointed celebrity chef.
Rick’s Cafe Americain
Rick's Café Américain draws on inspiration from the film Casablanca, though the hip factory is turned up a notch or two to create a space that is cosy yet incredibly chic.
Real Cape Adventures
Looking for an ocean adventure? With a wide variety of sea-kayaking tours, Real Cape Adventures will take you there.
Rcaffe
Hangover breakfasts and brunches are the order of the day here. But be sure to pack your shades; you don't want to look too rough for the achingly attractive clientele.
Raya Lounge
We're inclined to think that Raya Lounge serves up some of the best cocktails in the city. Care to disagree?
Pure
Pure does exactly what it says on the tin and offers a pure dining experience in theatrical surroundings.
Pro Divers
Pro Divers offers professional diving instruction that will have you in the deep blue sea in no time. Check out their specialised courses and wreck diving (for those with a little more experience).
Overture
An unusual but carefully thought-out menu makes Overture one of our favourite places to eat in the city. We can't get enough.
