Hg2 : The Hedonist

Cape Cadogan

Fat white columns hinting at Georgian grandeur dominate the white-shutter façade of this Victorianized monument, making it one of the sleekest places to stay in Cape Town. Inside it’s all soothing white, perfumed with the sweet smell of ever-present St Jospeh’s lilies and sensual lounge music; sink deep into one of the beautifully re-textured antique sofas and admire the thoroughly modern design of a driftwood sculpture, or be distracted by the shining baubles hanging off the nearby chandelier. The juxtaposition of vintage collectibles and minimalist cool is quite sexy, and the guest house enjoys the restricted intimacy of just 12 rooms. Bag a luxury room for maximum comfort and oodles of space (number 8 has plenty of it, coupled with a superb view of Table Mountain from the tiny terrace), not to mention exhilarating bathrooms with enormous showers built for two (at least). It’s all very good value, and well located if you prefer to walk; at the upper-end of the price spectrum, you can rent the adjacent Owner’s Villa, a chic private nest with a lavish, compact design that’s perfect if you’re the solitary sort or simply prefer to have everything all to yourself.
