Hg2 : The Hedonist

Pepper Club

Pepper Club went up just in time for the World Cup in 2010, bringing a new brand of glamour to a part of town more closely associated with late-night carousing. From the outside it’s all brash, square-cut, concrete and marble, but once you step through the humungous revolving door, you’re taken half aback by the intimacy of the white marble lobby with its oversized armchairs and sassy glambot reception staff. Sure, it’s an overt urban sanctuary for business folk, but it’s been put together bearing in mind that those who travel for work also like to have fun; so the bar is right around the corner from check-in, and there’s an in-house cinema (with over 1,000 titles available), an elegant spa, and-besides the pool up on the 8th floor-an effortless trip to Cape Town’s very own Sunset Strip, where the hotel maintains a sexy beach club. So there’s no end to the ways in which you can disappear into a swirl of luxury and seaside glamour. Designers have gone all out to create a recognisably swanky identity for what might otherwise be a perfectly anonymous large city hotel. Of the 210 rooms, even the entry-level studios are large and well-kitted (all with proper kitchens), but the suites (with up to three bedrooms) are such good value it’d be silly not to bag one-and there’s no beating the view from high up on the 18th floor. We love that décor is utterly chic and contemporary, but you may want to silence your air-con unit (noisy) and steel yourself for long thumb-twiddling sessions as you wait for an elevator. Still, once you hit the ground floor, you’re suddenly slap-bang amidst such a mind-boggling choice of bars, restaurants, and shops, that you’ll struggle to contain your inner hedonist.
