Hg2 : The Hedonist

Bukhara

Regularly vaunted as one of the the best Indian places to eat in Cape Town, Bukhara has undergone a recent facelift, and now numbers among the city’s most impressive-looking restaurants, fragrant with spices, simmering curries, and smoky flavours drifting from the tandoori oven. You can watch the entire, marvellous spectacle through the massive glass wall that separates the elegant dining room from the kitchen, a dramatic space that beats any cooking channel hands down. As dozens of celebrity guests, including the King of Jordan, a regular, will attest, Bukhara’s dining combines authenticity with a careful nod to a more international palate; when Bono flies in to Cape Town he apparently calls in to check they’re open. Although staff can come across as a tad arrogant, it’s easy enough to ignore them and get caught up in the exquisiteness of the décor-a sultry mix of dark wood, vibrant red walls, green marble floors, beautifully patterned bamboo screen trellises-not to mention the magic on your plate. Caveat: Acoustics can be problematic when it’s full.
