Harbour House
It’s hard to find places to eat in Cape Town where you’ll be closer to the ocean (and the fish you’ll be munching on) than at Harbour House. Designed a bit like a beach bungalow set on the landward end of Kalk Bay’s concrete pier, this fish restaurant has one of the best seaside locations in Cape Town; literally right on the ocean, you have a perfect vantage from which to watch the waves frothing against the rocks right outside the windows. Cocooned against the elements by wraparound glass, you’re likely to spot seals and seabirds chasing after fish just meters from your table (reserve a window seat-although, if things get rough, there’s no guaranteeing you won’t feel the spray). You can either choose from a selection of chalked-up fish, caught from their very own boat, or scan the compact menu for calamari (pan-fried with paprika), prawns, crayfish or the seafood platter. If you’re not a seafood lover but like the idea of being close to the ocean, there is also a selection of non-seafood dishes such as rack of lamb or grilled fillet. It’s a pretty, mood-enhancing space, best enjoyed at a relaxed pace. Neither you nor the waiters are likely to be in a hurry, so go with the flow and settle in for a very romantic sojourn.
