One of the most visually arresting restaurants in Cape Town, Pure feels more like a theatre set than a dining space, yet still manages to make you feel comfortable rather than a bit-part performer. What is does is set you up for some serious culinary razzle-dazzle, as ideally nothing served in an environment like this should be anything less than extraordinary. And Chef Alexander Mueller does everything possible to blow you away-his tasting-size portions are packed with flavour. It’s a menu that sounds like furious hard work, and although there’s nothing disappointing to distract from the experience, you somehow come away feeling perhaps a little hungry for more, the curious flavours feeling too much like a prelude rather than a satisfying meal. Ultimately, that’s a massive compliment: Maestro Alexander should simply put more of his genius on the plate.
