Rust en Vrede
Following
in the steps of many Cape Town restaurants, Rust En Vrede is yet another
beautiful wine estate that’s been catapulted into the limelight, offering what
is generally considered
one of the country’s best dining experiences, Rust en Vrede has perhaps alienated many potential diners because of its air of exclusivity – this is after all home to one of the Cape’s truly iconic reds, the selfsame 315-year-old Stellenbosch estate that produced the wines chosen by Nelson Mandela for his Nobel Peace Prize dinner celebration. But don’t let this put you off from experiencing a superb meal, choosing between a four-course menu with a la carte options, or the six-course set menu; for the full-on experience, the latter option can be accompanied by paired wines showcasing several of the country’s diverse wine-growing regions. As you’ll hear all across the Winelands, ingredients are typically fresh and seasonal, with the benefit of specially-matured meat homegrown on Rust en Vrede’s very own Kalahari farm.
