Hg2 : The Hedonist

De Waterkant

Some of the most celebrated craft shops in Cape Town can be found here. Hawksmoor Antiques (125 Waterkant St.) If you liked the Cape-meets-European design aesthetic of Hawksmoor House, here’s where you can get the kit to recreate it at home. (Their scented candle is worth sniffing out too). Beatnik Bazaar (111 Waterkant St.) With its selection of quirky hand-crafted retro-style items, this was named by Time magazine as one of the top 10 best reasons to visit Kalk bay; like all the top Kalk Bay shops, BB has moved into swanky new De Waterkant premises. Africa Nova (72 Waterkant St.) This is a definite must-see, the best African craft shop in the country, chosen with a real eye by Zimbabwean Margie Murgatroyd; it’s where craft really starts to meet art, and where Conran was inspired to celebrate SA design. Out of this World (72 Waterkant St.) Also worth popping into for their selection of African artefacts sourced locally and across the continent. Kingsley Heath (117 Waterkant St) Referred to as the South African Abercrombie & Finch, this is where you shop for sophisticated-on-safari look. Fibre Designs (16 Dixon Street) Taking carpets to new heights (‘bespoke hand-woven floorware’, to be exact), with classic and exciting designs in wonderful colour combinations. Living Leather (Jarvis House, Jarvis Street) Beautifully hand-tooled leather items.
