Boekenhoutskloof
Lush vineyards naturally occupy the top of your list of places to see in Cape Town. In the most far-flung corner of the Franschhoek Valley, this historic winery estate is named for the Cape beech tree (boekenhout), which was used extensively in the production of Cape furniture. Most of the vintages available for tasting are from the mid-level Porcupine Ridge range, but every tasting includes a few swigs of The Chocolate Block – a famed red notable for its distinctively chocolatey flavour – and one cultivar from the more exclusive (and in all other respects, sold-out) Boekenhoutkloof Collection. The delightfully laid-back, unpretentious setting and warmth of the tasting experience makes this a particularly memorable outing.
