At 3,842 metres – hence its name – there are very few places to eat in Chamonix that are higher up than Le Restaurant 3842. The menu is serviceable – grills, tartiflette and a selection of Italian dishes – but it is the view of the Mont Blanc Massif and the Chamonix Valley you go for and not the food. A three-course lunch costs between E35-40 in the cafeteria. Note that restaurant service is not available during the ski season.
