Nicknamed ‘Bar Nasty’ by some of Dubai’s more discerning drinkers, this is nonetheless one of the only true beach bars in town and if you pick your moment, it’s actually rather nice. Especially pleasant on Saturday, when the boob tube brigade is at home racking their brains for the name of last night’s shag. Pitch up mid-afternoon and chances are you’ll be able to pounce on one of the big white sofas at beach level and stick your toes in the sand, or secure a table on the terrace above from which you can stare at the Palm. On weekend nights, you’re well advised to get there early as the queues can snake round the corner. It’s shoulder-to-shoulder air stewardesses dancing to the surprisingly good covers band and downing Jaegerbombs after midnight – good old fashioned cheesy fun if you’re in the mood.
