Hg2 : The Hedonist

Wafi Gourmet

Granted, the view from the frou frou terrace here looks like something from one of those ‘crap postcard’ collections (it’s an enormous car park plus a dystopian cluster of residential tower blocks) but the mock-Egyptian stylings of the restaurant’s bonkers interior will keep you entertained nevertheless. A cross between Harrods food hall and a nineteenth-century Oriental market scene, Wafi Gourmet has mountains of olives, chocolates, jellies and sweetbreads for the take-home customer plus shisha, meat kebabs and mountains of glistening fattoush (salad) for those wanting to down anchor mid shopping spree. Order sparingly if you’re planning to make another lap around this maze-like mall: you’ll be assailed with industrial quantities of flatbread on entry, and main portions are generous. The fresh fruit shakes make for an elegant pit stop treat. Boiled lamb’s brain? Not so much.
