Hg2 : The Hedonist

Cavalli Club

Want to eat gold? Yes, actual gold. Get thee to the Cavalli Club then. Not that designer Roberto Cavalli himself could ever be accused of subtlety, but this sort of bling – cranked up to eleven, gold leafed, and then doused liberally in Cristal – has to be seen to be believed. The unprepossessing entrance at the back of the Fairmont Hotel gives little of the game away, but as you ascend the black marble stairs that seem designed to break your ankle (seriously, it’s pitch black – girls, take your heels off or get a piggyback), you get an inkling of what awaits. At the top, you’ll find a cavernous space literally dripping in Swarovski from a ballroom-height ceiling. Primarily a restaurant at the beginning of the night, the main dining area – where you can eat the aforementioned gold, in a signature sushi dish that also includes Wagyu, caviar and lobster, or more standard Italian fare – is the focus of the space early on, but as the night proceeds, glammed-up guests disperse to the various elevated VIP pods to dance under the dramatically suspended DJ booth until it’s time to hit the 400 Club, round the corner, at 2am. If you can make it down the stairs in one piece.
