Long-time Dubai-dwellers go all misty-eyed about this little Italian. Set in the sort of hotel you’re unlikely to give a second glance unless you’ve been told, it achieves the unusual feat of making you forget that the rough stone walls are cladding and the foliage fashioned from plastic and feel like you’ve stumbled upon the sort of trattoria that mamma used to frequent. Solid, reasonably-priced traditional dishes made from good quality ingredients (lots of pork in case you’re feeling pig-starved) are the mainstay of the menu. If you’re on a date, avoid the garlic bread that arrives, steaming, to the table almost instantly – they use a whole head per loaf. Do make like the Lady and the Tramp though and share a main course bowl of pasta or a pizza – they’re seriously super-sized.
