With its copy shops and office chair warehouses, the area surrounding Lamcy Plaza, Dubai’s frumpiest shopping experience, where the likes of (whisper it quietly) BHS are relegated, doesn’t inspire confidence as a place for culinary discovery. But unlicensed Lemongrass is a shining, indy green beacon in these chainstore badlands. There are two or three tables on the balcony outside, but unless you’re a chain smoker or exhaust enthusiast, avoid as they afford only a view of the car park opposite. The waitresses are friendly and helpful, but there’s not much on the menu that needs explaining. They will quiz you as to the spice level required level of the curries, noodle dishes and standard starter fare. Smoothies are standout, offering fruity holistic goodness – just ignore the fact that the first one on the menu promises to soothe those nasty stomach upsets.
