Currently under construction, this mind-boggling project located about half an hour from Downtown in what was once desert scrubland will be the most ambitious tourist destination ever created. It is colossal: its theme parks, exhibitions, leisure and entertainment facilities will make Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort, currently the world’s largest theme park complex, look like a children’s crèche in comparison. Upon completion, Dubailand (www.dubailand.ae) will be the size of Singapore. One of its more wacky attractions will be the Falcon City of Wonders, a recreation of the world’s greatest architectural wonders infused with 21st century hi-tech features. Imagine the Pyramids, the Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal all in one place, all full scale and you begin to get the idea. And don’t miss Restless Planet, a Jurassic Park extravaganza complete with an animated T-Rex and over a hundred other animatronic dinosaurs all built by robotics experts in Japan and costing more than a billion dollars. Also coming soon is The Great Dubai Wheel, even bigger than the London Eye. To create accommodation for the millions of visitors who are expected to visit this marvel, Dubai’s government has given the green light for the Bawadi Project, nicknamed ‘DuVegas’, which will add a whopping 51 new hotels and 60,000 hotel rooms, including (you guessed it!) the world’s biggest hotel, the 6,500 room Asia-Asia, due for completion in 2010.
