Kiva Han

Nudged up against the base of the Galata Tower, Kiva Han’s sunny terrace is perfect for Sunday brunch or an evening meal away from the more obvious nighttime spots around nearby Asmalimescit. The bustling restaurant serves up innovative versions of traditional pan-Anatolian recipes (meatballs in cool cucumber mint cacik), as well as a tasty range of veggie options (stuffed courgettes, or cumin-spiked bulgur köfte), daily soups and an open meze buffet. And if you find the menu totally baffling, there’s a selection of daily dishes that can be chosen by pointing at the hot trays inside. Turkish coffee and tea have been joined lately by filter coffee and other Euro-style caffeine options, and while it may appear that Kiva Han doesn’t serve alcohol, just ask for a wine or beer and it will arrive in an undercover coffee mug.
