Basileus Hotel

There’s a touch of the old world about the Basileus Hotel; you can feel it in the stuffed armchairs and molded ceilings, in the warm glow of the lights, the heavy drape of the curtains, the polished gleam of the marble floor. And most of all in the friendly and attentive service. The staff here are always more than happy to help guests, from providing directions to making restaurant reservations. And, as they’re sure to tell you, the Basileus Hotel couldn’t be better placed for sightseeing, with the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Topkapi Palace within walking distance.

The rooms are clean and simply appointed, featuring dark wooden furniture and crisp white linens. Many of the rooms even have their own private balconies with views out over the Old City, which are particularly striking around sunset. There’s also 24-hour room service for those who become attached to the comfort of their rooms, but the Basileus Hotel serves up a pretty decent breakfast buffet for those with the strength to get up and about between 7am and 10.30am. Then it’s just a matter of stepping out of the Basileus’ smart grey-and-white building and onto the cobblestones, ready to explore the city.
