Located just above the swish Sunset Grill on the same hill is the similarly glamorous Ulus 29, with (again) fantastic views of the Bosphorus enjoyed from a lovely semi-circular terrace. Owned by lifestyle entrepreneur Metin Fadilliolu and designed by his architect wife Zeynep, the restaurant is smartly decorated and perennially popular. The ‘29’ bit of the name refers to the 29 classic dishes on the menu – Turkish and around the Eastern Med – all excellently prepared, if reassuringly expensive. Alternatively, you can have a spot of sushi, which seems oddly popular on this particular hill in Ulus (taking advantage, perhaps, of a secret local source of sushi chefs). The bar is notable, serving a good range of cocktails, making Ulus 29 all-in-all a great place to snack, imbibe and take in the view.
