Part of the super-smart Westcliff Hotel, the Conservatory is a beautiful, light café with an al fresco pool terrace. In the autumn the views from the hotel terrace are wonderful with the Jacaranda trees are in bloom. The specialty of the Conservatory is the extremely rich and indulgent afternoon tea, (so make sure you have a light lunch and leave room) there’s a classic or chocolate menu where the cakes, scones and éclairs are piled high on three-tiered stands. Lunch is equally as good and a tapas menu is served from 5pm. The Conservatory is the perfect place for a quick bite to eat before splashing out on a bottle of champagne in the Polo Bar, with the rest of the city’s movers and shakers. On a quiet afternoon if you are listening carefully you might be able to hear the roar of the lions in the Jo’burg Zoo a short distance away.
