Situated in a meticulously renovated house in the up-market suburb of Parktown North, Wombles is all about homely glamour with antique wooden furniture and contemporary furnishings making for an interesting and eclectic interior. Large wine glasses and silver cutlery grace the tables all underneath blood red walls. Famed for its reasonably priced and oh-so tender steaks, the menu is presided over by Rhodesian owner/chef Duncan Barker. Concessions are made for those who are spurn to red meat with a decent selection of poultry and fish. Wombles is great all year round, but possibly best enjoyed in the summer when spacious verandas beckon for boozy lunches in the afternoons or romantic dinners in the evenings. During the winter months the restaurant turns from chic to cosy, with both outside and inside fires to warm up chilly patrons.
