Tours are designed entirely by the company’s in-the-know locals to give visitors a sense of real life in Johannesburg and an idea about the city’s cultural identity and social fabric. Of course, the tours do hit many of Johannesburg’s main sights, but the idea with Mainstreetwalks is more to immerse oneself in the city’s day-to-day and to uncover something deeper about the city’s history and how that has informed the way people live today.

Several different tours covering various aspects or areas of the city are on offer on different days of the week – Inner City, Art and Justice, Picnics in the Sky and Maboneng Precinct – each lasting from 2.5 to 5 hours. Corporate tours are also available.
