Trifide Coloirs
Trifide Coloirs is made up of three runs in La Grave, all of which are accessed from the top station. You ski through netting with stark warning signs about the dangers ahead; none of the couloirs are for the faint-hearted and, depending on the snow levels, the routes into them can be a bit tricky. Trifide 1 is the easiest, which means it does not have a 10-15-metre cliff at the exit like Trifide 3. Like all couloirs, much depends on the conditions on the day but these are sure to test even the hardest and best skiers. We have skied them a few times and on each occasion the guide has put in a safety rope at the start as it was rocky with much of the snow blown away by the wind. The entrance to the first is not steep, but you would not want to fall and pick up speed as there are rocks beneath you.
