Hg2 : The Hedonist

MGM Grand

The mammoth-sized MGM Grand hotel is one of the most grandiose hotels in Las Vegas, which, quite literally, lives up to its grand name. The hotel is still emerald – giving off a beautiful glow at night but that’s the last remnant of the former Wizard of Oz décor, jettisoned when it adopted its more glamorous City of Entertainment theme, celebrating classic Hollywood. Even the signature lion that once stood guard over the hotel’s entrance has been replaced with a more stylish, 45-foot, 100,000-pound bronze cat at the corner of Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard. The 16,000-seat Grand Arena hosts pro basketball, hockey, and rodeo events and concerts like the Rolling Stones, Sting, and the Backstreet Boys. In 2000, the MGM Grand completed an $85-million refurb in which every one of the rooms was redone. With Art Deco furnishings, the new spaces are meant to replicate an MGM Studio bungalow from the golden age of Hollywood. Like many other spots on the Strip, MGM has also recently added offerings to lure sophisticated travelers with a modern aesthetic. In the West Wing rooms, you’ll find TVs in the bathroom mirrors and Bose radios, all decked out with sleek, minimalist décor. In the ultra-plush Skylofts, which occupy the top two floors of the hotel, you’ll get a two-story setup with floor-to-ceiling windows and every amenity imaginable, including a personal, 24-hour butler-along with a whopping 1,440 square feet.
