Hg2 : The Hedonist

Parodia

This intimate drinking den lies slightly off the beaten track in the affluent and residential district of Campo de Ourique.

Designed by Luis Pinto Coelho, a collector of junk, antiques and art pieces, it opened in the mid-1970s. The name ‘Paródia’ was taken from a satirical weekly published in the 1900s by artist and writer Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro.

The dark and mysterious alcoves became a meeting-place for intellectuals who would gesticulate wildly about matters of abstract philosophy. These days the conversation is far more subdued.

Treasured relics, the velvet cushions still hold as many memories as they do dust. Walls are covered in art nouveau posters and ornate-framed mirrors. Ring a doorbell to enter.
