Esplanada do Adamastor
Students, travellers and bohemian types frequently gather at Esplanada do Adamastor, one of central Lisbon’s quaintest coffee shops, on a sunny afternoon. The miradouro itself is nothing more than a wooden kiosk with limited outdoor seating, but a consistently interesting crowd creates a vibrant buzz.
From local estate kids to left-of-centre tourists, it’s certainly varied. The spot takes its name from a stone statue of a mythological figure that looms over the space. So laid back it’s almost horizontal, the outcrop is a safe haven for cannabis smokers and the smell of hash hangs permanently in the air. The temptation to kick back, relax and admire the stunning view is far too strong to resist.
