Lisboa Noite
Owned by the same team, this Lisbon seafood restaurant is a finer dining version of Sinal Vermelho next door. The food is fairly similar and the main difference lies in the décor and clientele.
One of the few remaining Pombaline structures in Bairro Alto, the building was once a stable for horses: ring chains and an original well still exist. In 1964 the structure was remodelled as a fado house, which functioned up until two years ago when the Sinal team took over. Now china plates replace nose bags and there are glass goblets instead of troughs. The bright orange walls, decorated with artistic photos of Lisbon by night, are textbook interior design.
Although at times a little staid, service is friendly and polite: favoured customers are treated to a glass of vintage cognac after their meal, which the owners allegedly found in a cellar while renovating the building. A calmer and more sophisticated alternative to the bustling eateries of Bairro Alto.
