Pizzaria Lisboa

For a taste of something memorable, there are worst ways to go about it than eating the favourite foods of top chefs. That’s what’s on offer at Pizzaria Lisboa; delicious pizza created by a man who loves it, Jose Avillez, the Portuguese chef of two Michelin-starred Belcanto fame. Pizzaria Lisboa is just one of his many Lisbon restaurants, serving food that’s flawless in its simplicity.

The tomatoes used in the sauces are San Marzano, the mozzarella melted on top is creamy, rich fior de latte, and the flour in the dough is nothing but the best doppio zero (super fine type 00). All of this combined means that even a seemingly basic Margherita pizza is a sensation. A lot of research went into creating each pizza, right down to the type of Italian wood-fired oven used to cook it. The result is a pizza that tastes just like you always imagined it could.

There are plenty of imaginative pizzas on offer at Pizzaria Lisboa, too. There’s the Comércio, with its toppings of mozzarella, gorgonzola, pear and cured ham. The Figueira is topped with tomato, mozzarella, figs, cured ham and basil. And the so-called pizza extravaganza, the Molecular, comes with tomato, mozzarella di bufala, onion, explosive olives and oregano. But there’s also a delicious menu of non-pizza options, including risotto, pasta, calzones and even fish and meat dishes (the chicken picatta is a hit).

In keeping with the pure, rich food, Pizzaria Lisboa is decorated classically with plenty of wooden accents, and domed ceilings playing with the light flooding in from the street. And the service is always welcoming, too, whether the pizza pilgrims visiting Pizzaria Lisboa take the form of couples on a date or a family in search of a fun night out.
