Hg2 : The Hedonist

Tavares Rico

This opulently gilded restaurant once boasted the title of Lisbon’s most expensive and luxurious dining house. Founded in 1784, it was favoured by aristocratic types and city notables. However, suffocated by the hands of anachronism, it was forced to close for several years until a change in ownership breathed new life into the golden pillars, and now Tavares is enjoying renewed popularity.

The gold and mirrored interior remains true to form, although the clientele are far more varied. Fine diners flock to sample the cooking of former Ritz chef Joaquim Figugirgdo, young crowds enjoy the novelty of a fine dining experience, while older regulars come to reminisce – although waiters no longer serve them by the mouthful! The atmosphere is surprisingly relaxed for a restaurant of this stature and the dining experience unique to Lisbon. A right royal feast fit for any prince or princess.
