Artesian
The pop of a cork may be the established celebratory knee-jerk to birthdays, promotions, retirement, etc but Artesian, the illustrious bar at The Langham, presents a far more imaginative tribute to life’s milestones. Its Artesian Moments cocktail menu draws on flighty spritzes of elderflower, bittersweet nuances of gentian and smoky frissons of pine and moss to create an imaginative booklet of smart drinks, each reliving ‘That Moment When…’.
The chic neighbour of Roux at The Landau (indeed, Michel Roux Jr had a hand in Artesian’s snack menu – the rich pomegranate-jewelled baba ganoush with crisp mozzarella-stuffed filo straws definitely say so), Artesian is a very sophisticated hang-out. All plump leather sofas beneath the muted gleam of chinoiserie chandeliers, its cocktails have a lot to live up to. And they succeed.
The refreshing vodka, fennel and Prosecco froth of …You Discovered Who You Were may be a far cry from a gap year in India, but there’s something wildly rebellious in that cocktail that inspires a nostalgic conversation. The grown-up …You Achieved Success at Work – Cognac kicked with a coffee twang of yellow caturra – certainly evokes the feeling of having done something right. And as for the giddy tequila, tomatillo and pineapple gush of …You Turned 18 – well, that’s definitely one to order another of.
