The Garrison was once the homey Honest Cabbage was reborn several years ago as this light and airy modern pub that evidently suits the good burghers of Bermondsey better. That this is no spit ‘n’ sawdust boozer is perhaps best illustrated by the fact that it’s perhaps the only pub on the planet with a basement cinema that’s rented out for private screenings. There’s good beer behind the bar and a very reasonably priced wine list. The cooking, that takes from all over Europe, is occasionally a bit too frou frou for its own good, truffle oil where it isn’t needed and chorizo in the mash. But they do a fine steak sandwich and cheeky bar snacks of cheese on toast and fish finger sarnies. The breakfast menu at The Garrison covers all the bases from Greek yoghurt with fruit salad to the full fry-up.
