Tapas Brindisa
This buzzy and unpretentious tapas bar (a spin-off from Brindisa’s popular shop at neighbouring Borough food market) is all about letting fabulous Spanish ingredients speak for themselves, and is packed out night after night by a young crowd who value honest food over glitzy surroundings when it comes to eating in London. Iberian classics such as manchego cheese with quince jelly and exemplary charcuterie (including the legendary acorn-fed pata negra ham) are augmented by the likes of salt-cod fritters, garlic grilled chicken, and goat’s cheese with blossom honey – a winning combination. In terms of both taste and expectation, Brindisa is a far cry from Britain’s lacklustre tapas-bar norm, thanks to the gifted hands of chef José Manuel Pizarro. Turn up and wait for a stool at the bar (with some almonds and a glass of Manzanilla) or book ahead for one of the casual café tables.
