San Domenico House
You won’t find a ‘Standard Double’ at a boutique hotel in London because Junior and Gallery Suites are much more fashionable. The notion that the fashion tribe is a flighty bunch is only partly true. While handbags and hemlines change with dizzying frequency, other lifestyle choices are more constant. Fashion editors are curiously loyal to their hotel of choice – provided they retain the three Cs (cachet, comfort and convenience). Effortlessly ticking all of these boxes, San Domenico House plays host to key members of the international press during London Fashion Week, including American Vogue editrix Anna Wintour. So what sets it apart from the others? Exclusivity (there are just 16 rooms making this a truly boutique hotel) and oodles of romantic charm. Many of the individually themed rooms feature four-poster beds, 19th-century furniture, paintings and toile de Jouy fabrics, plus unique touches such as Louis Vuitton trunks in one room, a pair of Marilyn Monroe’s shoes displayed in another. Crucially, the roomy commodes are large enough to accommodate the most expansive of travelling wardrobes and should visitors have an unforeseen fashion emergency the upscale shops of Sloane Square are but seconds away in a chauffeur-driven car.
