The Knightsbridge Hotel
Situated in a quiet tree-lined street in Knightsbridge, this place is one of the most beautiful townhouse hotels in London and just a stone’s throw away from the chichi shops of Sloane Street. As part of the Kemp portfolio, the high-style hoteliers have tried to marry design and affordability: considering its excellent and expensive location, this five-star hotel is reasonably priced and still provides all the Kemp classics – modern English décor, granite and oak bathrooms (with showers only) and Frette linens. Most of the 44 rooms have large windows overlooking the leafy street below – be sure to request one that does. Downstairs, the tasteful African-themed drawing room and pastel-hued library both have wood-burning sandstone fireplaces and quirky original artworks. In Kemp tradition, there is also an honesty bar, where guests can mix a drink to their liking and simply make a note of how many they’ve had. Whether the clientele of fur-clad ladies who waft through reception will be able to muster the energy for such a knees-up after a hard day’s shopping is questionable, however.
