In a city as burger-suffused as London is, what does it take to stand out from the crowd of patties? Maybe a pork (yes, pork) burger: one composed of acorn-fed pork, at that, topped with pickled chilli slaw and Thai curry mayo. The Same Same – one of the menu highlights of the new Chuck Burger on Commercial Street – is juicy, piquant, and unlike pretty much any other burger you can find in London right now.
Chuck Burger’s small but serviceable new location, which is saved from looking too much like a fast-food restaurant by its red and black design scheme – clearly caters to a City crowd after a midday meat craving. But it’s also possible to lounge here quite comfortably for a few hours in the evening, nursing one of the eatery’s hard shakes (Oreos and Cruzan rum do, we learned, go rather splendidly together). Halloumi, chicken, and lamb burgers add further interest to the menu.
But if it’s a classic, 100% beef burger that you crave, you should know that the one here boasts an inch-thick patty, comes lacquered with cheese, and is almost too tall to fit your mouth around. In short: it’s a good bet.
