MASH – Modern American Steak House
Set at the foot of a sweeping spiral staircase in a Soho basement, this enormous restaurant makes quite the first impression. Step through the double doors and you’re met by an enormous circular bar, staffed by an army of efficient bartenders busy whipping up a range of exclusive MASH cocktails for thirsty diners. Separating the bar from the main restaurant – a vast space dotted with large, dimly-lit leather booths – are two glass display cases containing great slabs of hanging meat…perhaps not all that vegetarian-friendly, but then veggies would be a little out of place in this carnivore’s palace. Choose between a variety of different cuts, from Uruguayan, Danish and American steaks right through to Australian Wagu, served up with sides of fries, creamed spinach and salad and washed down with a bottle or two from the encyclopaedic wine list. The steaks are a little on the large side, but if possible do try to leave room for dessert, the Crème Brulée is the stuff of foodie dreams.
