The Clove Club
Since its opening, the Clove Club has attracted colossal amounts of lives-up-to-the-hype praise. What’s attracting the accolades? The fact that the Clove Club is located in the revamped interior of the old Shoreditch Town Hall is certainly one factor. The dining room’s stripped-down and effortlessly cool interior, combined with its sweeping high ceilings, gives it the feel of a devotional space (haute cuisine is here the high deity). Much of the hype can also be credited to Chef Isaac McHale, whose previous stints include gigs at Noma and the Ledbury. At the Clove Club, his vision is communicated through the medium of a seasonal, ever-shifting tasting menu (no a la carte here) that captures the subtle and sparkling best of Britain’s fine bounty. This is a man who can work his way around a vegetable, though his meat dishes – one recent plate included toothsome beef rib with wild garlic leaf puree and potato cigars – are handled with an equal amount of aplomb. McHale’s vision is only set to grow in creativity, so don’t the miss opportunity to worship at his temple.
