All England Lawn Tennis Club
For spectating, strawberries and cream, Wimbledon is the obvious venue when it comes to tennis clubs in London (the fortnight-long championship starts in the last week of June). Access to Centre and Number One/Two courts requires corporate clout or obsessive-compulsive organisation (such is the demand that there’s even an online public ballot open from Aug-Dec of the preceding year, where you can enter a draw to buy tickets, with no choice of day, time or court). Day tickets for the outer courts can be queued for on the day, though ‘the day’ for many starts the night before with sleeping bags and gritted determination. Tours of the club and access to the museum, whose collection dates back to 1555, is available to all outside of the championship.
