The tongue-in-cheek treatment names (The Upper Hand, Foot Patrol, Homme Improvements, etc.) belie the high-tech, no-nonsense standard of procedure at Bliss, one of the fancier spas in London. Decorated in the clean signature palette of white and aqua, the ground floor of Bliss London (the UK home of the cult New York spa) houses a row of nail stations where well-heeled locals and day-trippers indulge in manicures and pedicures. The experience is often described as ‘very Sex and The City’ – particularly since the series is shown on a loop on flat screens hovering over each station. A Bliss pedi can cure even the gnarliest of hooves and the therapists (who are also dispatched to tend to high-maintenance celebrities who might have chipped a nail) go to painstaking lengths to ensure toes leave in pristine condition, even using fine paintbrushes to perfect nail polish. Downstairs, beyond the suede banquette-lined relaxation room are private treatment rooms for all face and body services – including the Quadruple Thighpass and the Betweeny Wax.
