Egg Slut
If you’re a fan of the humble egg, Egg Slut in LA is the place to go – although at this eatery, it’s not so humble, it’s the star of the show. Now with a veritable cult following, Egg Slut started out as a food truck before its owners set up shop in the bustle of LA’s Grand Central Market. But they also have outposts in Venice, Glendale, and Las Vegas, should the need for ovo arise while out of sprinting distance of Downtown LA.
There’s a diner feel at Egg Slut. LA denizens – anyone from tourists ambling past the market to high-flyin’ banking types from the nearby financial district – rub shoulders at the counter for a chance to try one of their hearty sandwiches. Served warm in brioche buns, the sandwiches range from the classic Bacon, Egg & Cheese (hardwood smoked bacon, egg, cheddar cheese and chipotle ketchup) and the Fairfax (softly scrambled eggs and chives, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and sriracha mayo) to their take on a cheeseburger, which includes ground angus beef, egg, caramelized onions, bread and butter pickles, cheddar cheese, and dijonnaise.
It’s an appealing prospect. But should a sandwich not take your fancy, the specials at Egg Slut are sure to please. The signature “Slut” is a particular crowd-pleaser; a coddled egg on top of a smooth potato purée that’s sprinkled with salt and chives and served with slices of baguette. Washed down with some hot coffee or an orange juice, it’s an epic start to the day.
In addition to being a fairly gourmet offering, Egg Slut also ensures its eggs are all cage-free and the other ingredients well-sourced; we’re talking organic and fresh. They’re even eco-conscious, as evidenced in the partnership with Box Water is Better, a sustainable water company.
