Founded in Baldwin Park in 1948, this fast-food chain is still family owned and operated, and it has perhaps the most rabid, devoted following of any such chain we know of. The results of this TLC are some of the best burgers in town. With a menu that is almost literally meat and potatoes, the regulars know that you can always hot-rod your Double-Double (two patties, two slices of cheese) in a myriad of ways, from adding more patties to a bun-free version wrapped in lettuce. Our favorite take on an In-N-Out is ‘Animal style,’ meaning extra pickles, extra spread, and grilled onions. One warning: the fries are made from real potatoes, which means they can be a little limp, so we order ours well done. This is an absolute must-eat in SoCal.
